A little about what we do and why we do it
Hello there - thanks for clicking through to this section.
What we do
The idea behind FloatSome Design is to use skated decks and other reclaimed materials to make new, well made furniture with a nod to the past using familiar silhouettes and bringing them bang up to date.
Often very colourful with patterns used to add visual interest to any room, this could as easily be achieved by hanging a single hook or going completely bespoke. We’re always keen to work on custom pieces, think dining tables, large wall pieces or like a recent work surface piece we did, more on that on Instagram (click the Insta icon to go there)
If you have a piece of furniture that could do with a refresh/repair then we'd love to hear from you too
We also do smaller homewares so everyone can have a piece by us that will last for years to come, do go have a look around, and even if it’s not for you someone you know might love it.
During development, we came up with a surface finish using the dust produced by milling skateboards. This can be seen on the coasters but could easily be used on panels for kitchen cabinet doors and table tops, buy some coasters to see the finish and have something unique to park your cup.
Why we do it
The drive to make good stuff for good folk rests on the fact that at the end of a skateboards life, they are more often than not just thrown into a landfill and forgotten about; likewise, unloved brown furniture ends up down the tip and more often than not is solid wood that can be milled into usable stock. Alongside this low voc glues and wood finishes are used to reduce the environmental impact of our work further
Yes it's harder to work with but that's the challenge and we don't make throw away pieces they're made to last a lifetime and then some ✌🏼❤️🔥
